The research group

Eleonora Cavalcante Albano

Professor, Linguistics Department, IEL-UNicamp

Research fields

Phonetics and phonology, language acquisition, sound change

Collaboration

My work draws on dynamic theories of speech and language and on philosophical pragmatics. My teaching and research seek to integrate speech to general cognition, in a dynamic view of the body, mind and sociability. I am the founder and coordinator of the group, which has been supported by CNPq since 1991.

Profile

To me phonetics and phonology are windows to the human mind. My views of the signans and its acquisition are inspired by the major classics of linguistics and psychology. With Action Theory and Articulatory Phonology, I see speech as a self-organized physical and cognitive process. My main interests are language acquisition, sound variation and change. My research attempts to address these issues by means of corpus statistics and instrumental analysis of phonetic detail.
