DINAFON 2014 is a four-day meeting, with plenary sessions, a short course, lectures, round tables, oral presentation sessions, and poster sessions. Papers will be selected through blind peer review. The proposed theme is "Speech and Language Dynamics".
DINAFON 2014 is a sequel to SPSASSD, São Paulo School of Advanced Studies in Speech Dynamics, held in São Paulo in June 2010. Most of the invited speakers in this DINAFON edition were formerly on the SPSASSD faculty. This new round of discussions will focus on temporal relations between speech perception and speech production.
The idea of forming a group to discuss and investigate speech dynamics arose in the late 1980’s, through Eleonora Albano’s participation in the discussion group on self-organization directed by Michel Debrun at the Center for Logic, Epistemology and the History of Science of the University of Campinas (Unicamp).
The first generation of the present group, supported by CNPq since 1991, had a parallel focus on speech technology, thanks to a productive collaboration with Fábio Violaro, from Unicamp’s Faculty of Electrical Engineering.
In the new millennium, the growing divorce between speech science and technology brought about changes in the group’s membership as well as in its research priorities.
Affiliation to Gestural Phonology and related dynamical theories of cognition became more explicit since, and has guided our work to date. Our current research focus lies on speech variation and change, and on the acquisition of first and second language phonology.
Dinafon stands for Dinâmica Fônica, i.e., speech dynamics, and expresses the research interests of a group of phonologists/phoneticians directed by Eleonora Albano.
